Pat Nolf Holding Non Profit of the Year Award! (2011)

Providing Mammograms to uninsured women - that is the mission of the Pink Ribbon Trailblazers.  Pat Nolf from Lake Orion Michigan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, battled with a lumpectomy, mastectomy and staph infections, and is now fully recovered.  After an 11-day stint at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Pat decided she wanted to give back to St. Joe after they took such good care of her.

Pat was riding with her husband in the car and made the statement "how can I make money for their programs?".  Her brainstorming produced Trailblazers, which hosts a "Stroll, Ride, Run "Fun"draiser on the Polly Ann Trail in Oxford, the second week in September each year.

Pat's goal for the first event in 2007 was to raise enough money to give away 30 mammograms and at $108 a piece.  Instead the Trailblazers raised enough for 130 mammograms!  Since then, the organization has raised $20,040 and donated it to St. Joes Hospital.  "Losing your insurance is like being lost out at sea," says Sue Yun a registered nurse at St. Joes.  Sue is also a volunteer for Pink Ribbon Trailblazers, and said this organization's efforts have been very successful.  Sue states "we found breast cancer in our very first screening".   What is particular unique among Pink Ribbon groups is our Trailblazers set no age limit on the screening and the tests are very comprehensive.

St. Joes is open for care, there are some women who make an appointment for a screening that have other medical problems, they provide follow care and ways to work out medical care issues.
